Why Rat Control Is a Particular Issue in North Vancouver
North Vancouver has three distinct rat pressure corridors. The Capilano River runs from Capilano Reservoir south through the city to Burrard Inlet — Norway rat populations use this waterway as a corridor connecting the mountain wilderness populations to Canyon Heights, Norgate, and central North Van residential. The Seymour River and Seymour Creek on the east side of the city provide a parallel corridor into Seymour and eastern North Van residential. The Burrard Inlet industrial waterfront along North Van's south edge carries industrial-area rat pressure.
Older Canyon Heights and central North Van homes from the 1950s to 1970s have the crawl-space construction with failing vent mesh and sill-plate gaps that Norway rats exploit. The combination of three active waterway corridors and older building stock creates above-average residential rat workload.
