Why Rat Control Is a Particular Issue in West Vancouver
West Vancouver's rat pressure concentrates along the Burrard Inlet waterfront and the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal area. The BC Ferries terminal at Horseshoe Bay creates above-average food waste concentration that sustains a rat population at the waterfront significantly larger than the residential surroundings alone would produce. The Burrard Inlet waterfront and the industrial area near the bridge approaches provide the waterway corridor that connects larger rat populations to Horseshoe Bay and Dundarave residential.
Cypress Creek and Hollyburn Creek provide secondary inland rat corridors from the mountain drainages into Hollyburn and British Properties residential. Older British Properties and Hollyburn homes with crawl spaces have the entry geometry that waterway-corridor Norway rats exploit.
