Why Squirrel Control Is a Particular Issue in North Vancouver
North Vancouver has among the highest grey squirrel density of any Metro Vancouver city. The forested mountain terrain provides continuous canopy connectivity throughout the city's residential areas — there is no flat open space that interrupts the tree canopy between mountain forest and residential rooflines the way there is in flat cities. Grey squirrels travel from Grouse Mountain's conservation forest directly into Canyon Heights, Lynn Valley, and Deep Cove residential through an unbroken canopy.
Older Canyon Heights and Lynn Valley homes from the 1950s to 1970s carry the aging soffit construction that squirrels exploit. The combination of continuous canopy access and older soffit construction makes squirrel attic access among the most consistent pest control scenarios in North Vancouver.
